Hundreds attend PSJA ISD annual College & Career Tailgate Event

PHARR– The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) College Transition and College Readiness Department hosted its annual College and Career Tailgate event before the highly anticipated PSJA Early College High School Bears vs PSJA North Early College High School Raiders football game held Friday Sept. 7, 2024.

The event is designed to provide PSJA ISD students and their families with valuable insights, resources, and connections to help motivate students and families to pursue a post-secondary education. The tailgate featured a wide variety of activities and games for students of all grade levels, highlighting many of the career-advancing programs offered through the Nationally Recognized PSJA Early College Program.

“We are committed to providing our students with every opportunity to explore their interests and pursue their dreams,” said PSJA College Transition Director Carlos Garcia. “We know that there are a lot of deadlines coming up in the fall semester for our seniors, this event is a fun and interactive way to connect our students with the right resources that will guide them toward a successful future.”

With hundreds of students, parents, and community members in attendance representatives from PSJA ISD’s numerous departments as well as university recruiters shared valuable information about the various programs available to all PSJA ISD students.

For Tristyn Garza, being able to ask questions and speak to different professionals in one convenient location opened his eyes to the many possibilities and job opportunities available after high school.

“As a junior, this event means a lot to me because it gives me a chance to ask questions and explore the different college and career options in one place,” said Tristyn Garza, Junior at PSJA Collegiate School of Health Professions. “I’m excited to learn more about the programs available to start planning for my future.”

Attendees not only received valuable college and career information but also had the chance to play games, enjoy free food, and cheer for their favorite football team—all in one evening.

Additionally, PSJA ISD seniors, juniors, and their parents will have the opportunity to meet with university representatives from across the state and nation and learn more about the college admission process, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities at the 25th Annual PSJA College Night event happening October 1, 2024, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Pharr Events Center.
